Filters

Filters built for trucks and heavy vehicles have been designed to not only capture and remove particles and debris from the system they’re protecting, but also to ensure that this process happens at a higher level of performance to ensure the continued function and safety of the vehicle. Each truck will feature different types of filters and these should be regularly maintained for maximum execution.

The main filters that need regular monitoring, upkeep, and even replacement are engine oil filters, fuel filters, and air intake filters.

Engine oil filters

The purpose of an oil filter is to remove impurities and contaminants from a truck or heavy vehicle’s engine oil. If the current installation is underperforming, small deposits can build up over time and cause unnecessary wear and tear on internal surfaces that can impact the performance of the engine.

Fuel filters

A fuel filter is a little less complex than an engine oil filter but functions in much the same way; its role is to clean fuel of contaminants and impurities, including sediment and rust, to ensure the long-term function of the fuel injection system and the overall engine.

Air intake filters

Air intake filters add an extra layer of protection to the entire system by filtering smaller contaminants, dirt, and similar particles from the air within the engine. When combined with engine oil and fuel filters, trucks will have an engine that operates at full capacity for longer.

No matter the composition of filters of all functions, or the quality of the design and materials used, each has a paper/thin material component that will depreciate with use. This means that it is extremely important to perform regular checks, clean components (where applicable), and replace parts when performance is impaired.

As filters come in a host of sizes and styles, it can be important to make the right selections for your truck or heavy vehicle. Here at Big Rig World, you can browse our filters below or contact one of our expert technicians to get professional advice on maintenance, replacement, and more.
