Lube Filters

It’s no secret that one of the most important components of a truck’s engine is the lube oil. This performs critical functions like cooling the constituent parts of the engine, reducing potentially damaging friction, and allowing the unobstructed flow of any debris so that it can be effectively carried away to the filter where it can be disposed of properly. The lube filter is an extremely worthwhile addition to prolong the lifespan and function of the oil, as it ensures that any potentially abrasive material will be taken care of without causing damage to the moving parts of the truck or heavy vehicle’s engine.

Main considerations for lube filters

Although oil can be contaminated via a host of internal and external processes, one of the biggest contaminants to be aware of is soot, which is internally generated by engines during the combustion process. Excess soot buildup will cause sludge to form in the oil and this will not only minimise its ability to move freely through the engine to maximise lubrication, but also cause undue corrosion. Prolonged abrasion will cause wear and tear that could prove to be expensive to rectify. Lube oil also helps engines by acting as a coolant, a cleaning agent, and a sealant for important areas within the engine (namely the combustion chamber, piston rings, and liner walls). Oil can also become filled with carbon particles, partially burned fuel, water, acids, paint chips, varnish, and lacquers that can not only impede its function, but degrade it over time.

The types of lube filters

There are three main types of lube filters; cartridge filters, spin-on filters, and centrifugal filters - and each of these will come with additional lube filter accessories.
