Cabin Air Filters

Just as a truck’s engine will have air filtration, so too will the vehicle’s cabin - and this is usually found within the HVAC system. Often known as a cabin air filter, this installation will help to maintain the air quality in the cabin for drivers, to ensure that they’re not consistently inhaling harmful pollutants.

Why is a cabin air filter important?

Cabin air filters can be an important part of a truck or heavy vehicle, as drivers will often be spending significant amounts of time sitting in a small space that can be stuffy and full of dust and other contaminants. If this filter isn’t regularly maintained or changed often, it will become clogged and air quality will be compromised.

Cabin air filters are designed to minimise the levels of dirt, dust, pollen, and bacteria from entering the cabin, as well as more detrimental airborne substances like exhaust gas and even small bugs. It can be especially important for drivers with allergies or reduced lung capacity to have consistent clean, fresh air within their trucks.

Signs of a clogged or damaged cabin air filter

  • Reduced air circulation inside the cabin or passenger compartment
  • Diminished heating and air conditioning performance
  • A sudden or continued musty or unusual odor in the cabin
  • Unusual sounds emanating from the HVAC system or cabin air intake ducting

If you notice any of these signs, it may be time to contact one of our expert technicians here at Big Rig World for advice and assistance in selecting the right model for your needs.

When to change or replace a cabin air filter

Cabin air filters for trucks or other heavy vehicles should ideally be cleaned or changed every 12,000 miles, or annually depending on the model and its features. For those who drive in heavily polluted areas, this will likely need to be done sooner (at around 5,000 miles). For drivers with health concerns, it can be important to make maintenance checks every month and change filters more regularly.
